Wangolina Langhorne Creek Project 5255 Malbec 2024

Wangolina Langhorne Creek Project 5255 Malbec 2024

$30.00

The inspiration for this wine is a long standing Goode family joke. Each year while driving to Victor Harbor for summer holidays the Wangolina family car would get the ‘hiccups’ while driving through Langhorne Creek and would need to stop for a break,
After a quick wine tasting and purchase the car would miraculously recover and be able to complete the journey. The grapes were selectively harvested on the 6 of March from Kimbolton Vineyards ‘Lake Plains Road Vineyard’ After crushing fermentation was encouraged by inoculation with a saccharomyces uvarum strain, which increases savoury and spicy characters. Hand plunged for gentle extraction to preserve vibrancy, then matured in 10% new French oak,1 puncheon and 8 barriques for 10 months prior to bottling.

Graduating with an Oenology degree at Adelaide University in 2001, she went on to work consecutive vintages overseas and within Australia to broaden her knowledge, exposure and experience before returning to her home in Mt Benson. Taking the reins as sole Owner/ Director in 2013, she has continued to evolve the Wangolina range and vineyard plantings to capitalise on the cool climate regionality and coastal capabilities of Mt Benson.

Wangolina

'Wangolina' ~ where the wattlebird sits. Wangolina home is the cool coastal wine region of Mt Benson and the wines are grown, sourced and made from cool coastal and temperate inland vineyards in the Limestone Coast. Owned by maker and grower Anita Goode, they make wines they love, for you to enjoy. Project 5255 is a ground-breaking winemaking experiment that offers winemakers two tonnes of fruit from Langhorne Creek to make a small-batch wine, putting the region in front of a new generation of Australian producers with a great focus on Malbec wines.
