WINEMAKER

Paula Witkowski

Paula is a winemaker at Rutini Wines in Mendoza, working alongside chief winemaker Mariano Di Paola. Based in Tupungato, she contributes to high‑altitude, fruit‑forward expressions, credited on export lines like Pequeña Vasija and San Felipe, emphasising clean varietal character, balanced tannins, and approachable elegance across Malbec, sparklings and rosés. Her role strengthens Rutini’s female talent within a storied cellar, shaping wines that highlight Andean freshness and everyday drinkability.

WINERY

Bodega La Rural

In 1885, Felipe Rutini—true to his family's Italian heritage—built a winery he named “La Rural.” That same year, with the arrival of the railway to the province, wine transport—previously done by cart—became much more efficient, giving a major boost to the industry.

At the same time, Felipe Rutini was a pioneer in planting vineyards in the Upper Uco Valley and an innovator in winemaking techniques and processes, laying the foundation for the winery’s steady growth throughout its history.

Today, Bodega La Rural is one of Argentina’s most important producers of high-quality wines worldwide. In the 1990s, the winery underwent a complete renovation, incorporating modern technology while preserving its original 19th-century design and character. This unique blend of tradition and modernity is evident in every corner of the estate.

The stunning Wine Museum is an architectural gem, housing over 4,500 original pieces that document the evolution of Argentine winemaking through the decades.
