Heartwarming, spicy Malbec from vineyards planted at an astonishing 2300m (Australia’s most elevated vineyard in New England is just over 1300m by comparison).

This is Bodega Colome’s ‘authentic’ Malbec, all wild-fermented and made with no new oak, which is uncommon for premium Malbec. It is intensely dark and intensely spicy with pepper, clove, star anise etc…

As you can imagine there is rippingly good acidity to keep all the fruit density and richness in check. Plenty of powerful, ripe tannins to go around as well!

WINEMAKER

Thibaut Delmotte

Born in Burgundy, France, Thibaut Delmotte has been the head winemaker at Bodega Colomé since 2005. With a background in viticulture and oenology from Beaune, he honed his skills in both Burgundy and Bordeaux before relocating to Argentina in 2004. At Colomé, Delmotte crafts wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Calchaquí Valleys, utilizing grapes grown at elevations ranging from 1,750 to 3,111 meters above sea level. His approach emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the high-altitude vineyards to express their distinct character. Under his guidance, Bodega Colomé has garnered international acclaim, producing wines celebrated for their intensity, elegance, and sense of place.

WINERY

Colomé

Founded in 1831, Bodega Colomé is one of the oldest working wineries in Argentina and home to some of the highest vineyards in the world, nestled in the Calchaquí Valleys of Salta. Sitting between 1,700 and 3,111 meters above sea level, the estate's extreme altitudes and dramatic landscapes produce wines of remarkable intensity, purity, and elegance.

Now part of the Hess Family Wine Estates, Colomé continues its legacy under the expertise of winemaker Thibaut Delmotte, crafting high-altitude Malbecs that are both bold and refined. Colomé’s Estate Malbec and Altura Máxima wines are iconic expressions of their unique terroir, shaped by dry desert conditions, intense sunlight, and cool Andean nights.

The estate also features the James Turrell Museum, blending art, wine, and nature into a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of the Andes.
