Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard River Malbec 2020

Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard River Malbec 2020

$236.00

Born from one of the most extraordinary parcels in Mendoza, the Adrianna Vineyard River Malbec 2020 captures the pure essence of high-altitude Argentine Malbec.

Planted at 1,366 metres above sea level in Gualtallary, this tiny vineyard parcel is covered in ancient oval white stones left behind by a riverbed thousands of years ago. These unique soils create a wine of incredible elegance, intensity and energy — floral, layered and deeply expressive.

Crafted with wild yeasts, partial whole-cluster fermentation and aged for up to 21 months in French oak, River Malbec combines richness with remarkable freshness and finesse. Silky tannins, vibrant dark fruit and a long mineral finish make this an iconic Malbec built to impress now and evolve beautifully for years to come.

WINEMAKER

Alejandro Vigil

Alejandro Vigil came to Bodega Catena Zapata in 2002 as head of Research & Development. In 2003 he joined the enology department, focusing on the winery's top wines. His strong scientific background led to important developments in both vineyard management and winemaking.

Alejandro was named Winemaking Director in July 2007 and under his direction as head winemaker at Catena Zapata, the winery was named New World Winery of the Year in 2010 by Wine Enthusiast and Winery of the Year in 2012 by Wine and Spirits Magazine. Alejandro has led the winery to garner international acclaim with over forty 95+ points ratings from the world’s most influential wine publications including Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Advocate, Decanter and Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar.

A naturally restless person, Alejandro strives to channel his creative energy into pushing the limits of conventional viticultural and winemaking wisdom.

Catena Zapata

Great wines begin in the vineyard. Catena Zapata’s vision is to make rich and unforgettable wines that are true to the land. Founded in 1902, Argentina’s Catena Zapata is known for its pioneering role in resurrecting the Malbec grape and in discovering extreme high-altitude terroirs in the Andean foothills of Mendoza. Through the pioneering vision and tireless work of Nicolás Catena Zapata over the past 40 years, Argentine wine now stands with the best wines of the world. The family’s historic Adrianna vineyard has been called South America’s grand cru. Now under the direction of fourth generation vintner Dr. Laura Catena, Catena Zapata continues to lead Argentina into the next century of winemaking through the work of the Catena Institute of Wine and its mission to preserve the vines and the winemaking culture of Mendoza
